“There is Redemption" July 25th, 2010 From The Pastor’s Keyboard: Welcome to Victory! We are honored to see each of you in the Lord’s House and pray that God will meet with us in an unusual way as we have assembled together. If you are visiting with us, we would like extend a special welcome to you and want to thank you for coming our way for the services. Or thought today comes from Joshua 21:43-45. These verses describe how the settlement of Israel is completed. However hid within these verses is a great truth of comfort for us yet today. The verses state: “And the LORD gave unto Israel From The Pastor’s Keyboard: Welcome to one and all on this last Sunday of July. It is so hard to believe that we are this far along in the year but we are. Anyway, we are honored that you have come to the services today and hope that each of us have come expecting to receive a blessing and to be a blessing as well. If you are visiting with us, we are honored by you coming our way and we hope and pray that you feel a warm and hearty welcome while visiting with us. One of my favorite books in the Bible is the Book of Ruth. It is a book that moves from defeat to victory and from desperation to a new destination. Sandwiched in between all of this is some wonderful truths that can be of great encouragement to us as we make our pilgrimage through this land and life and head toward the land that is fairer than day. Ruth 4:10 states: “Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.” Neither time nor space allows me to list verses 9 through 12 and all of the goodness listed in them but I would like to summarize these verses for our thought regarding redemption. First, There is the Redemption from Poverty. The family had lost it all. Ruth was a gleaner in the field. They were scraping just to get by. But when Boaz redeemed them, he purchased them from a life of poverty and brought them into a place of plenty. This is a great picture of what the Lord Jesus Christ did for us when He saved our souls. We were deep in sins poverty and it was not getting any better. But our kinsman Redeemer brought us out of the pit of poverty and established our goings and since then we have been children of the King. We are no longer living in poverty but thank God we abound in a life of plenty. Secondly, There is the Redemption for Protection. Boaz saw they were living from just pillar to post and that they had no real place to call home for sleep and safety. He saw a need for them to have protection in their lives. So with that being said, when He purchased them He also took it upon himself to protect them. He took Ruth to be his wife and by doing so, accepted the responsibility of caring for her and making sure her needs were met. The day I accepted the Lord, I became a part of the bride of Christ and ever since that day, my bridegroom has had the responsibility of taking care of me and protecting me along the way. May I say, I have never been disappointed in Him. His protecting hand and His Provision have been much more than I would have ever expected or deserved. What a mighty God we serve! Lastly, There is the Redemption for Preservation. Boaz made it plain that he was buying everything that belonged to the family so he could keep the name from being cut off from the gate of his place. He preserved their inheritance. Likewise, when the Lord saved us from our sins, He preserved us for the rest of the journey and then accomplished for us our eternal future as well. I am preserved not only till the coming of the Lord but throughout all eternity. My inheritance has been secured and there are many witnesses who can verify that what He has spoken is true and shall be accomplished! Happy in His Service Pastor Calvin |
